Since 2006, we have been pleased to be including in NEM-Watch a view of the most recent 30 days of the “Wholesale Electricity Price Index” (WEPI for short).
The WEPI was developed collaboratively by d-cyphaTrade (now ASX Energy) and the Federal Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources (since changed its name several times). It has been designed to provide a representation of (for a given working day) the volume-weighted average cost of energy paid by the end user (i.e. reflecting both spot and contract trades).
As a company that is specifically focused on making the energy market understandable, we’re keen to support the use of the index in situations where it can help deliver greater understanding about the market. For this reason, we have included the WEPI into NEM-Watch.
There is no WEPI data currently published for Tasmania, as there is no liquid futures contract traded.
**WEPI data has been discontinued as of the 1st of February 2016.
